When people consult lawyers, they often need to produce paperwork, including deeds, wills, policy documents and the like.  Keeping these things safe is important, and safety needs to cover both the risk of theft and the risk of destruction.

You may store such things in a bank, for security, but that can be costly and it means a delay every time you want your lawyer to see them. 

We do not charge for storing papers for our clients, even when no current work on them is in hand. Wills are kept not only for safety but also to ensure that they can be considered periodically for revision.  Deeds of properties may soon be of less concern because of changes in the law, but as a source of historical guidance they will still be important.
