ECCLESIASTICAL LAW

Our offices house The Registry of the Diocese of Salisbury

Registrar: Andrew Johnson
Deputy Registrar: Sue de Candole
Registry Clerk: Dee Elston
Assistant Clerk: Sarah Hart

These share a wealth of experience of the law relating to the Church of England, its structures, and its people. The Church of England is an established church, and its laws form part of the law of the land, but most lawyers have little or no knowledge of Church law.

People outside the Church may be affected by both secular and church law in relation to marriages and burials, churchyards and tombstones and church buildings.

Church people also have to deal with the law covering priests and their people, elections and duties of churchwardens, parish administration rules, parish structures and many other legal matters which come through the office daily.

Our specialist staff have broad and deep knowledge of the subject.

The service is often free, but even when it is not, it is much less costly than it would be without the particular expertise found at Batt Broadbent.
