Batt Broadbent Solicitors LLP is a two office firm based in Salisbury and Chippenham. We are currently in the process of driving the firm forwards, whilst keeping to the firm’s most important values of delivering a personal service to each and every client. We are undergoing a significant period of investment in systems and working practices as we look to build for the future.

We are seeking a Ecclesiastical Lawyer to be based in our Salisbury office. This is an exciting opportunity for an established solicitor who is eager to work within a friendly and collaborative firm.

Description of the role

Diocesan Registrars are office holders of the Church of England.

The work is mainly retainer work and includes dealing with queries on law relating to marriage, burials, churchyards; the appointing of clergy; consecration of churches and churchyards; the faculty process for church buildings; church governance; clergy terms of service; pastoral re-organisation and also legal requirements in relation to worship and liturgy.  The team in the Registry attend and give advice to Diocesan Synod, and from time to time other Diocesan committees and bodies.

We also prepare and deliver training particularly for new clergy and in relation to new and developing areas of law and we attend key events in the life of each diocese.
